On The Paper Route

In addition to being the title of a book written by the novelist Erik Orsenna, the paper route reflects a genuine transmission of expertise. From invention to a constantly evolving innovation, paper manufacturing has become a globalized technical phenomenon that has spread both in time and space.

The paper's journey reflects a non-linear and decentralized process that highlights an entire cross-cultural network based on the adoption and adaptation of different methods and production phases to the disparate landscapes invaded by the charta.

The formal invention of paper as we know it today is attributed to Cai Lun, who in 105 AD, during the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220 AD) and the reign of Emperor He of Han (88-105 AD), perfected a paper-making process.
