Knowledge Dissemination

The dynamics of disseminating papermaking expertise developed over time through the circulation of various books, letters, and inventors’ articles. Since the late 18th century, the codification of papermaking techniques accelerated significantly, contributing greatly to the development and industrialization of this technical field. The representation of tools, mechanical objects, and the description of different processes and production stages, through scientific texts and technical illustrations, was made possible by the creation of patents and precise scientific works.

With paper as the protagonist, it became both the carrier of innovative technical knowledge as an informational medium and an end product through the materialization of the transmitted expertise. From the intangible realm of creative thought to the tangible reality of a production embedded in the material world, the dissemination of technical knowledge brought about changes in landscapes and collective memory.
